Hey look - an introduction! Because you could just check out the about me page if you're really interested in my personal life I'll make this more about the blog and it's purposes.
I'm currently working three jobs and pursuing a couple hobbies on the side as well as making the husband/dad thing priority numero uno. It's easy to get lost in my own thoughts and it would be great to post ideas somewhere for me to reference and hopefully get feedback on. Hence: blog. Short and sweet enough?
Here's a quick rundown of the categories I'm envisioning, so if they tickle your fancy you can bookmark me and come on back whenever you want.
- Web Design
Wow really? Yes really. This takes up most of my life right now. At work I'm currently developing some internal systems using Ruby on Rails but our legacy code is all PHP so I'm constantly trying to make myself more viable in both languages. I also build Squarespace sites for people (hence this website) which is an entirely different beast that helps sharpen my JS and CSS skills a little more every day.
I'll include some of my accomplishments, tips I've learned, and refer to other sites articles about design and code if it seems like it might help people in the same way it helped or inspired me.
I worked as a professional musician full time for over a decade and now that it's officially my "side hustle" I'm always looking for new avenues to vent musically as well as new musical inspiration. One of my passions is video game soundtracks and I've had the itch lately to begin exploring that space with my own material.
I can't help it, my family is the most important thing in the world to me. In a world where social media is just a flood of people either bragging or complaining about their kids I hate to add to the noise, but sometimes you learn something as a parent or a husband that might actually reach out to someone else. Or maybe one of you can fill me in on how to get better at something, I'm always open to hearing other people's techniques and views on parenting.
- Video Games
As much as I wish I had a cooler more socially acceptable hobby, this is the hand I was dealt. I've been playing games as long as I can remember but recently I haven't had as much time to play as I would like. I've pretty much honed in on Hearthstone as my primary game of choice and I otherwise live vicariously through game reviews and streams.
I also want to get into the game development scene if for no other reason than to say I've created my own game. If I never made a dime off of it, it's kind of like my "Great American Novel". I'll post here about gaming as well as my plight as a rookie game developer.
That's about it, looking forward to blowing your minds. Or at least starting a conversation.
